DontSnooze Questions the Setup Walkthrough Skips

Does your circle need the app too? Do they see wins or just fails? Is there a couples plan? What happens on a new phone? Honest answers to the questions that come up before you start.

The full setup walkthrough covers how to configure DontSnooze — the alarm, the video, the group size. It doesn’t cover the questions that come up right before you actually invite people, which are less about how the app works and more about what you’re asking your friends to sign up for. Four of those, answered plainly.

Do the people in my circle need to download DontSnooze too?

Yes. There’s no web link or text-message workaround — proof videos and reactions happen inside the app, and screenshots are disabled, so watching from outside it isn’t possible.

The friction is smaller than it sounds, though. Watching, reacting, and getting invited into a challenge costs nothing, permanently. You’re not asking three to six people to pay for an app on your behalf — you’re asking them to install something that costs them $0 to use in the role you actually need them in.

Does my circle only get notified when I fail, or do they see it when I succeed too?

Both, every time. A morning you nail posts your own proof video to the group in real time. A morning you miss auto-posts a random photo pulled from your camera roll, visible for 48 hours and then gone. Nobody gets to opt out of the group seeing a result — it’s not built so wins stay private and only failures go public.

Is there a couples or shared-billing plan?

No. Nothing in DontSnooze’s pricing suggests a shared or family tier, and given that billing runs entirely through your individual Apple ID rather than a card DontSnooze itself processes, there isn’t really a mechanism for splitting one subscription across two people. What works instead: both of you go Pro on your own accounts and add each other to your own circles. Same visibility, two subscriptions.

What happens to my streak or circle if I get a new phone?

Genuinely unclear from anything published. The reasonable guess, based on how App Store subscriptions generally behave, is that signing into the same Apple ID and hitting Restore Purchases carries your subscription over. Whether your streak count and circle membership follow along automatically isn’t stated anywhere, so don’t assume it until support confirms it. Worth noting this is a different question entirely from deleting your account and data, which is a deliberate, separate action — a new phone shouldn’t trigger it, but “shouldn’t” isn’t the same as documented.

Should you actually set this up?

The free-to-watch layer is the smartest part of the design — it works like an open mic’s cover charge: the audience gets in free, which keeps the room full, and only the person on stage pays. That’s what makes the embarrassment mechanic land. The real friction is everything above: no couples plan, an undocumented phone-migration story, and a circle that has to actually install something. If you can get three to six people who’ll install the app for free and actually check it, this is worth setting up. If you can’t, the app has nothing to work with.
