Alarm Didn't Ring? Check the AM/PM Before Anything Else
A wrong AM/PM, a one-time alarm and a 12:00 mix-up cost nothing to rule out. Five checks for an iPhone alarm that never sounded.
When an alarm doesn’t ring, check the AM or PM before suspecting the phone. It takes five seconds, it is wrong more often than people expect to find it, and every other check costs more.
- Read the AM/PM. Open Clock, tap Alarm, and look at the letters beside each time. A 6:30 set as PM looks fine until morning.
- Look at the toggle. Grey means off. An alarm that fired yesterday may have switched itself off.
- Read the line under the time. It says “Never” or lists days. “Never” means it rings once and stops.
- Distrust the 12s. 12:00 AM is midnight, 12:00 PM is noon, and 12:30 AM is half past midnight. Turn on 24-hour time in Settings > General > Date & Time and the problem disappears.
- Test it. Set an alarm two minutes ahead, put the phone down, and wait.
If all five check out, the problem is elsewhere, and the longer list is in the ten-minute iPhone alarm cleanup, while Focus-mode silencing covers the case where the alarm exists and is set correctly but you never hear it.
